The 2023 Pegasus Film Festival College, Career, and Education Fair will take place in person on May 27th at the Angelika Film Center. Come meet representatives from the top film schools and learn more about their programs! Some schools will also be giving out scholarships to aspiring film majors, so make sure to submit your film for consideration! We will also have representatives from production companies, apprenticeship programs, and more.

Ranked among the best film schools in the country, the filmmaking school at UNCSA knows that you won’t become a filmmaker by just sitting in a classroom. In your first two years at UNCSA, you will direct and shoot numerous digital projects as you take hands-on courses in every facet of modern film production. Then you’ll choose a concentration—animation, cinematography, directing, editing & sound design, producing, production design, or screenwriting—and collaborate with classmates on original short films, submitted to festivals around the world. As a filmmaking student, you’ll be taught by and be able to network with industry professionals—those on faculty and visiting guest artists.
You will learn industry standards and protocol, and practice your craft on state-of-the-art sound stages and studios with professional equipment. Every spring, you will have the opportunity to attend screenings at RiverRun International Film Festival, which we co-host on our campus. Your senior year, you’ll travel to Los Angeles with faculty mentors from your concentration to screen your films for industry executives and influential UNCSA alumni. The goal of our conservatory is for you to become a “complete” filmmaker—an experienced storyteller skilled in all facets of the moving image arts.

SMU Meadows Division of Film and Media Arts is devoted to training and mentoring students to become artists in film and media. Alumni enjoy careers as directors, screenwriters, producers, cinematographers, media executives and artistic directors, with work ranging from documentaries and shorts and feature-length films to television series and online digital videos. Students can gain hands-on access to equipment the very first year and have numerous opportunities to hone their craft in scriptwriting, directing, producing, lighting, audio recording and more. Offering B.A. and B.F.A. degrees, the Division offers plenty of curriculum choices and guidance about the industry, including hands-on production training and courses covering the historical and theoretical aspects of film and media. Unlike many film programs at other universities, Meadows Film & Media Arts has the advantage of being part of the larger Meadows School of the Arts, an award-winning school encompassing 10 areas of study in the visual, performing and communication arts. In a conservatory setting, our immersive curriculum prepares you for a multi-faceted career in the filmmaking industry. You’ll learn how to perform each role on set as you rotate through the crew positions on other student films, giving you a well-rounded understanding of each position’s impact on the storytelling process.
You will work one-on-one with faculty and visiting filmmakers who are industry experts with a gift for teaching. As true mentors, your professors will guide you through each step of the filmmaking process, offering their knowledge and creating relationships that will continue beyond your time at FSU.
From pre-production to post-production, storytelling remains the defining feature of our Bachelor of Fine Arts program.
